Butte College held its annual Veterans Day celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the main campus lawn, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville. The College’s Veterans Day celebration is a way to recognize and honor student veterans and the veteran community.
The ceremony kicked off with traditional events, including posting and retrieving colors, a singing of the national anthem, a moment of silence, and a featured guest speaker. The guest speaker was Butte College alumnus and USMC veteran Travis Sanchez. Sanchez previously served as a veterans support specialist through the Butte County Veterans Service Office and is currently working as a statewide coordinator for the Butte County Office of Education.
Several veterans organizations were present with information, including peer support programs such as the Vet Center, Equine Therapy, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), as well as employment support and opportunities from organizations such as the Employment Development Department, the Butte County Sheriff's Office, and Team Rubicon. Military vehicles were on display and recruiters from the US Army, US Marines, US Air Force, US Navy and the National Guard were on site.
